🔥 Ignite the Spark. Fuel the Flame. 🔥
Have you ever felt so deeply about something that you just wanted to scream it to the world? Have you ever felt so frustrated that throwing in the towel seemed like the only option? Or so joyful that you just had to share that happiness and make everyone’s day a little brighter? No matter the emotion, it’s a spark for something greater.
Sexual violence is one of the world’s most horrific and inhumane issues. It can affect anyone—regardless of race, gender, age, or background. Just take a look at these staggering statistics:
- Every 68 seconds, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.
- Every 9 minutes, child protective services uncover evidence of child sexual abuse.
- 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18.
Shocking, right? It’s hard to even imagine the depth of this issue. These numbers fuel my anger, but more importantly, they ignite a sense of urgency. Why is this happening? Why is this allowed to continue? While we may never fully understand why, we can certainly focus on what we can do to make a difference—and it all starts with a spark.
Sexual violence should never be normalized or tolerated. So, what can we do in our communities? We can spread awareness. Maybe you’re thinking, “But I’m just one person. How can I really make an impact?” I get it. But here’s the truth: you can make a world of difference.
To help raise awareness, the Crisis Center is hosting two powerful events to support survivors of Child Abuse and Sexual Assault:
- April 8th, 2025: Evans Park, El Campo
- April 10th, 2025: Matagorda County Courthouse
These events are an incredible opportunity to transform that spark into a blazing flame of action.🔥
And remember, another powerful way to help is simply to listen. You don’t need to have all the answers. Just be present. Survivors trust those they feel safe with, and sometimes, the greatest gift you can give is the space and time to truly listen. Don’t interrupt. Don’t dismiss their feelings. Don’t make it about you. Just say, “Thank you for trusting me with your story.” Become a safe space for someone in need.
At this point, if you’re not feeling the spark, go ahead and read this again—it’s time to ignite that fire. We may each be just one person, but together, we have the power to create real change. Will you stand with the Crisis Center? Together, we can raise our voices, spread awareness, and make a lasting impact for those who need it most.
